Full Description
Moat (remains of) probably rectangular, to W and NW of farmhouse. Two carved stones (one from window) found in moat, chalk floors and spreads of gravel noted here. The Old Rectory was sited to E of present early Tudor farmhouse and this had been bulldozed leaving many large stones, chalk floors and puddled clay floor bases. Trench 1 foot 6 inches wide was dug across site from E-W showing building had sat on solid clay with timber sills. Early Med to Tudor pottery, green glaze and unglazed sherds found on this part of the farm (S1). See also Rom.
