Full Description

Hall, C16 to C17 building much altered in C18 with modern additions. LB Grade II.
Site of medieval manor house of de Vere family, Earls of Oxford. Lake to S, known as The Fishpond is probably an expanded medieval fish pond (was there in 1503)(S1). Marked with a building symbol and named as `Bayly House' (i.e. the bailiff's house) on a map of 1580 (S2).
Mortared-flint and brick foundations of a large building are visible in the garden to the NE of the present house (S3). The foundations are mapped on the OS 1:2500 map (2nd ed 1904).
