Full Description

7-8 'Roman' urns found "in construction of a roadway in 1864, on the glebe land where the railway leaves that land in the direction of Cavendish…". Circa one foot six inches below surface, within the space of a few yards. Full of bones and ashes; only one decorated. Near a plot of broken land called the 'Dane Pits' (S1,S2). Grid reference after (S2). Rail bridge over River Stour at this NGR, though antiquity findspot cross actually shown on OS maps from 1884. This stretch of railway line was constructed about 1864/5.

"Little bronze figure of Mercury ..." also attributed to this site - probably not (S5, S1, S3, S6).
