Full Description
Moat. Trapezoid, occupied, isolated. On parish boundary (S1).
A waterfilled landscaped moat partly surrounds 'Shimpling-thorne' (formerly the Rectory). The present house has been modernised and is not now outstanding. The arms of the moat have a maximum width of 14.0m and average about 1.5m deep. Traces of the south arm can be seen as a depression in the garden. A further pond at TL 8709 5145 is not part of the moat and was probably dug as a clay pit or farm drainage pond.
