Monument record BTT 008 - Treakle's Farm, Nr Castlehill Farm.

"Burials", ? Cremations. "Parish boundary very curious, a large square taken out of Hitcham and made to connect with Brettenham by a blunt wedge shaped entrance. Numerous burials have been found near this entrance" (S1). Probably due to access to Oak Grove Wood (Ancient Woodland in Brettenham). Rev Copinger-Hill gave information (and sketch map) to Basil Brown showing site on Treakle's Farm. "The farmer, on whose land the Roman site is, states he has found burials and also that Roman potsherds are strewn over a wide area." In the SE area of the wedge shape, a ridged area was noted by Rev Copinger-Hill and described by him as Early British - TL 9665 5135 (in Oak Grove Wood)(S2).
An AP shows the outline of a settlement resembling a lost farm (note Treakle's Farm now gone) of DMV at this point. Part of the outline follows the parish boundary (S3).
