Full Description
Five boundary stones on the Boyton/Capel boundary (a sixth is on a possible round barrow - BOY 012) marked on the 6 inch OS map.
1) TM 3510 4701, limestone, `A.H.' inscribed on N side, `B.T.' on S side; 2) TM 3534 4702, limestone, `A.H.' inscribed on SE side, `B.T. on NW side; 3) TM 3500 4700, unlocatable; 4) TM 3531 4719, unlocatable; 5) TM 3530 4728, unlocatable.
The 1843 Tithe Map of Boyton shows that the area to the S of the parish boundary belonged to Mary Warner's Charity; the 184 Tithe Map of Capel St Andrew shows that the area to the N of the boundary belonged to Thelluson's Trustees (Lord Rendlesham) (S1).
Note parish boundary at TM 3485 4708 (and probably in other locations) made up of double banks and ditch in-between (S1).
The Account Book of the Boyton Trust records that in 1766 nine stones were put down on the heath as boundaries between the lands of the Duchess of Hamilton and those of the Trust. The stones are marked on an estate map of 1782 (S3).
In view of survival of elements of monument upgraded in HER from Misc (CP, June 2010). Formerly recorded as Post Med butearthwork boundary banks could be considerably earlier.
