Full Description
Thin scatter of Rom finds.
Small quantity of pottery, tiles, two nails, tile with painted plaster, found in 1946. Exact location in garden of Byways unclear but distinct from area of Sax finds. Some possibly in field to E (i.e. Riverside Paddocks). In 1953 Mr Rudd (owner, Byways) informed B Brown that a Rom road crossed the garden N-S with a layer of packed flints (S1).
Metal detected finds include coin of Domitian and two C3 and a fragment of fantail brooch (S2). Occasional finds also in field to E (IXW 018).
February 2001: Evaluation trenching prior to proposed development revealed three Early AS graves (part of larger cemetery), and Rom and Med finds - details in (S3).
Also Sax cemetery and Med finds.
