Full Description
Human skeleton found by workmen digging pit at depth of 5.5 feet, lying extended but no evidence of coffin. No grave goods found but few sherds of glazed pottery found in spoil heap. Basil Brown drew grave sections and thought this may have been Saxon burial, but distance from parish church of St Margaret is only 20m to the E. The grave was found, whilst digging sewer for Police house, which was being built in September 1956. The bones were given to Basil Brown (no inquest held) and in 1966 he gave them to Bunard Frescoe for study at King Edwards Grammar School, BSE (S1)(S2).
