Full Description
Moat, unoccupied, isolated positon, near 'manor'.
Rectangular moat of four complete arms : N arm 30m, E arm 30m, S arm 30m, W arm 45m. The width of the arms varies - the narrowest being the S arm at about 5m wide, and the widest is the N arm - about 25m wide. There is a plank footbridge across the moat on the S arm. The island slopes up from the moat to give a slightly conical shape. The N side of the island being about 3m above the water level the other sides about 1m - 2m.
On the island is what appears to be a 'neo- Gothic' archway, built of cinder and decorated with broken pottery and contemporary floor tiles. There is no revetting around the moat.
On the NW side there is a shallow, narrow channel leading from the moat towards a pond in the next field. This acts as an overflow from the moat during wet weather.
The moat is wet, varying between 1m and 2m deep (S1).
