Full Description

Moat. Large unoccupied trapezoidal moat on E side of churchyard with a possible second moat to the N. Parch marks noted in interior by owner - building (S3). Known as `Knyvetts' - also on brass in church - possible manor house site. ?Fish pond or hollow way to S at TM 1068 6568. Site of capital manor of Mendlesham.
1970: Scatter of Med pottery found during fieldwalking survey by R Colchester, consisting of 4 rims Hollesley type and 2 late C16 sherds, also a quantity of limestone tiles (S1)(S2).
