Full Description

Lakenheath Warrener's Lodge. Post-medieval building on exterior presumably masking Medieval hunting lodge core, cf Thetford Warren Lodge and Mildenhall Warreners Lodge (MNL 134), though note further (more central to surrounding rectagular enclosure) building, which had gone by circa 1904, shown on 1880s OS map to SW.
'By 1649 there were already 3 lodges on the Warren' [Lakenheath](S3).
Shown and named as 'Lakenheath Lodge' on Hodskinsons map of Suffolk 1783 (S1) & on later maps of 1813, 1853 & 1878 (S2) & OS maps.

Improvements & extentions were made to the lodges on Lakenheath Warren by Duleep Singh in the 19th century. By 1878 the main lodge had been repaired & extensive stables and cartsheds provided (S3).

2009: Lakenheath Warren was given a wooden lodge in 1365 and this was replaced by a stone building in 1387 (S5).

2010: The Breckland Society's survey of The Warrens of Breckland identified the perimeter banks for the rabbit warren (see LKH 174) and associated lodges. Three lodges are mentioned in the Terrier of 1649 and two fo these may only have been occupied during the trapping season, with the main lodge located in the centre of the warren (S4)
