Full Description

Remains of substantial bank to W of church. Irregular form. N arm varies between circa 1.20m and 3m high and 15m wide. W end of W arm now ploughed out but remaining part varies between circa 2m to 3m high and is circa 20m wide. Dog leg twist on S arm (S1).
The N & W arms appear to form part of the boundary of `Great Close', which together with WNG 022 were the only arable fields shown on the 1842 Tithe Map. Probably built as a barrier to rabbits fom the `Warren' (shown to W & further to S & E)(S3).
Note further earthworks shown to NE of church on OS map (S2) - WNG 022. Scatter of pottery located between N & W arms - see Rom, Sax, & Med. Also PMed pottery scatter & Preh flint scatter.
