Full Description

Details of find on human skull and bones in garden of Coastguard Cottages, Landguard Fort area from cutting "Evening Star" 3-8-1948. Digging sand out of garden, Mr Baldwin of Walton found human remains 2 feet below surface. It was thought these may have been interred in the graveyard of the chapel within the fort, first mentioned in Taylor's "History of Harwich", 1676. However, the cottages are probably not within the confines of Landguard Fort and unlikely therefore, to be part of the graveyard. Basil Brown does not comment on this find (S1).

Formerly recorded as FEX MISC
