Full Description
1978: Material from kiln, excavated by (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s) in 1974, brought in for identification (S1). Labelled "Roman Field `Kiln 2'". Possibly a closed group because of specific labelling. Only one alien sherd. Greyware includes many plain jars, carinated forms, horizontal grooved bands, sometimes with bands of decoration. Some `finer ware' sherds highly burnished small carinated bowls and dishes reminiscent of West Stow. Kiln waste: large number of `dome plates' with organic inclusions. Further material mixed with finds from 2nd kiln, LKH 062 (S2). Some drawings. Early forms, Belgic derived. One of kilns within large Rom scatter, LKH 011 and multiperiod site, LKH 072. For others see LKH 011, 019 and 062.
For other Rom kilns in Lakenheath, see LKH 01 and 073.
