Full Description
July 2014. Lothingland, Lowestoft and North Suffolk Coast and Heaths National Mapping Programme.
The cropmarks of a probable round barrow are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2), within an area of fields, enclosures and trackways (COR 014). This site is visible as a ring ditch in 1976 (S2). A light coloured soilmark is visible in this location in 1966 (S1), merging into soilmarks of adjoining boundaries. Given the possible presence of a former mound it seems likely that this site represents the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow. However it worth noting that other ring ditches within this area have also tentatively been suggested as relating to a domestic or agricultural enclosure or structure associated with COR 014. Although it seems most likely that a Bronze Age round barrow cemetery (COR 064) was located here prior to the establishment of the field system.
