Please read our .

Summary

The cropmarks of a faint ring ditch is visible on an aerial photograph within the COR 014 cropmark complex in Corton parish. This site is likely to have formed part of a Bronze Age round barrow cemetery (COR 064) was located here prior to the establishment of the field system. However it worth noting that other ring ditches within this area have also tentatively been suggested as relating to a domestic or agricultural enclosure or structure associated with COR 014.

Full Description

Indistinct ring ditch, diameter not determined from AP, within area of field system complex COR 014, lies in blank area so no evidence for relationships (S1).
A very indistinct possible ring ditch is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs centred on TM 531982 within cropmark complex COR 014 in Corton parish. The ring ditch was not recorded as part of the Suffolk Coastal NMP project (S1). (S2).

July 2014. Lothingland, Lowestoft and North Suffolk Coast and Heaths National Mapping Programme.
Reassessment of the aerial photographs identified a faint, but fairly convincing ring ditch at this approximately location (S1, S3) and it was added to the mapping. This ring ditch may represent the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow, part of a cemetery (COR 064) predating the fields, enclosures and trackway (COR 014) in this area. Although it is feasible that it relates to a domestic or agricultural enclosure or structure associated with COR 014. Although the site of the ring ditch appears to be overlain by boundary banks, possibly associated with a later phase of COR 014 and may be medieval to post medieval in date.
