Full Description

A World War II strongpoint is visible at TM 534830 northeast of Benacre Broad in 1940. The strongpoint comprises a large circular pillbox with rear blast wall (possibly of World War I date) and associated trench system within a barbed wire circuit (with a second line of barbed wire to the southwest) (S1). By 1941, the large pillbox has been removed, presumably the defences are relying on the pillbox incorporated into the anti tank cube line to the east. The overall defences of this beach have also been augmented and the strongpoint is now connected to other parts of the defences by barbed wire lines (S2-3). The site has since been eroded away.
Initially numbered as BNC 029 during pilot survey of intertial area. Re-numbered Nov 2004
