Full Description

World War II anti-aircraft ditches are visible on Felixstowe marshes from 1944 onwards. They consisted of shallow ditches with piles of upcast at either side and were meant to prevent aircraft from landing on flat open areas of countryside such as the marshes. Although there is no photographic coverage before 1944 the ditches may have been constructed as early as 1940, as similar ditches further south (FEX 109) are visible on photographs of that date. (S1) (S2)
By 1965 little trace of the ditches remained.
See FEX 104 ,FEX 105, FEX 107, and FEX 108 for other anti-aircraft ditches on Felixstowe marshes.
