Full Description
Anti-aircraft ditches of World War II date can be seen on Felixstowe Marshes from 1944 onwards. They consist of shallow ditches with piles of upcast at either side and were meant to prevent aircraft from landing on flat open areas of countryside such as the marshes. There is no photographic coverage available for this area earlier than 1944 but the ditches may have been constructed as early as 1940 as similar ditches further south (FEX 109) are visible on photographs from that year. (S1) (S2)
Faint traces of these ditches can still be seen in 1965. (S3)
See FEX 104 ,FEX 105, FEX 106, and FEX 108 for other anti-aircraft ditches on Felixstowe marshes.
