Full Description
Anti-aircraft ditches of World War II date can be seen on Felixstowe Marshes from July 1940 onwards. They consist of shallow ditches with piles of upcast at either side and were meant to prevent aircraft from landing on flat open areas of countryside such as the marshes. (S1) (S2) By 1945 the ditches are already beginning to disappear (unlike the ditches further North which may have been constructed at al later date - see below) (S3) and by 1965 they have completely disappeared.
See FEX 104, FEX 105, FEX 106, FEX 107 and FEX 108 for other anti-aircraft ditches on Felixstowe Marshes.
