Full Description
1945 aerial photgraphs (S1) show a stretch of sea bank c 3.5km long running along the northern edge of the River Blyth, skirting Reydon Marshes. The bank also passes into Blythburgh parish near Wolsey Bridge. The bank runs from TM47137691-TM49347652, and can also be seen on the OS 1st Ed 25" map which dates to c1884. This indicates that these flood defences have their origin in the post-medieval period. There is, however, one short section of bank at TM49237590-TM49417596, c 200m long, which does not appear on the earlier map, suggesting that it was added in the modern period, pre-1945.
