Full Description
A length of sea bank, c 4km in length, can be seen on 1945 aerial photographs (S1) running along the southern edge of the River Blyth, to the north and east of Blythburgh, from TM43747591 to TM46057474. The banks mapped from aerial photographs correspond with those depicted on the 1st Ed 25" OS map of c1884. This would suggest that these flood defences have their origins in the post-medieval period. The sea banks are not visible as a continuous entity on the aerial photographs, but have some gaps, presumably where the bank have been eroded away at some time.
