Full Description
A possibly rectangular pit, centred on TM 29324331, can be seen adjoining a channel in the salt-marsh at the edge of the Deben Estuary on photographs taken from the 1940s onwards. There is no clear evidence that the pit is man-made but it is in close proximity to the footpath that leads to the boat hard and may be related to some type of extractive process. (S1) (S2) The feature is still visible on photographs taken in 1971 but this area of salt-marsh appears to be subject to a process of managed retreat. (S3)
Other pits in the area may also be man-made features.
