Full Description
Two probable Post Medieval extraction pits are visible as earthworks on photographs taken in the 1940's. The largest pit, centred on TM 29114040, is circa 83m by 67m and the smaller pit, centred on TM 28974040, is roughly 30m by 20m. (S1) (S2) It is unclear what mineral or material was being extracted from these pits but they are depicted with woodland covering them on a map of circa 1884 (S3) and were therefore presumably disued by that date. By 1971 the larger pit has been ploughed over and is visible as a soil mark on aerial photographs, although the smaller pit is still visible as an earthwork. (S4)
