Full Description
A World War II road block and pillbox, located on South Hill, Felixstowe, are visible as structures on aerial photographs taken in the 1940s. The road block is located at TM 29913419 and is visible as what appear to be slots in the road into which a barrier would have been fixed. The pillbox is located further up the hill at TM 29963423. It appears to be about 6m square and is positioned so that it blocks half of the road. The pillbox was positioned in order to provide cover for those manning the road block which is about 60m further down the hill and to prevent easy access from the coast to the military site at Martello Tower 'Q' (FEX 076), via South Hill. The pillbox had been removed by 1946. (S1) (S2)
