Full Description
A wreck, probably of Post Medieval or Modern date, is visible as a structure in the mouth of Walton Creek in Orwell Haven, on aerial photographs from 1944 onwards. In 1944 the wreck is located at TM 28113340 and is visible in that position until 1951. (S1) (S2) In photographs from 1953 however, the wreck appears to have moved 130m to the south-west, to TM 28043329. It has been assumed that this is a movement of the same wreck due to the storm of February 1953, rather than a different vessel, particularly as they appear to be the same shape and size. (S3) The wreck is still visible in 1963 but by 1973 it is no longer visible, possibly due to the expansion of the port at Felixstowe. (S4)
