Full Description
A Post Medieval seabank is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs taken from 1944 onwards, running from TM 28443326 near Felixstowe Docks, northwards to TM 27403455, on the eastern side of Orwell Haven. From TM 27603434 to TM 27403455 the seabank runs inland where the reclaimed area of land at the edge of the haven has been extended by the construction of a later seabank and oyster pits (FEX 195). The seabank is depicted on the 2nd Edition Ordnance Survey 25" map dated to 1904 (S1) and is almost certainly of Post Medieval date. By 1982 all traces of the seabank appear to have been removed by the extension to the container port at Felixstowe. (S1) (S2) (S3)
