Full Description

A possible World War II gun battery site is visible as the possible remains of structures, centred on TM 26543487, in Trimley St Mary, on aerial photographs taken in July 1944. The feature consists of three small circular areas of either soil disturbance or concrete measuring between 2m and 3.5m in diameter, attached to a linear track or road around 17m in length. The features were constructed some time between April and July 1944 and are no longer visible by 1946. They may represent the remains of a temporary anti-aircraft battery, facing out across the River Orwell. (S1)
See SLY 079 for a similar feature located across the river at Shotley.
