Full Description
A World War II pillbox is visible as a structure on aerial photographs taken in the 1940s, centred on TM 22153645 at the side of the B1456 opposite Pear Tree Farm in Shotley parish. The pillbox is hexagonal in shape and has a roofed entrance on its north side. It appears to be located in order to prevent an enemy approaching on the B1456 from the south. It appears to have been removed by 1951. (S1) (S2)
See SLY 118 for the World War II features at the other side of the road and SLY 006 for the Later Prehistoric or Roman field system.
