A disused quarry pit, probably for clay, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs located about 25m to the south of Iken Wood at circa TM39715625. The pit is circa 50m in diameter, and is marked the 1st edition Ordnance Survey map of circa 1884 as 'Old Clay Pit' (S1). It is visible in a very overgrown condition on aerial photographs from 1945, located within an uncultivated field (S2). By 1965, Iken Wood has been much reduced in size, but although the field in which the pit is located has been ploughed and is under cultivation, the pit remains intact and if anything is even more overgrown (S3). It is also marked on the current Ordnance Survey base map.
