Full Description
A possible Post Medieval seabank is visible as an earthwork, centred on TM 24103584, in Shotley Marshes. The bank is roughly 250m in length and, on average, 9m wide. It runs on a roughly north-south alignment across marshy ground between Shotley Old Hall and Crane's Creek, following a drainage channel. The position of the bank suggests that it may be related to an early reclamation attempt in this area, which could have been a natural inlet from the main river channel. It is most likely that the seabank has a Post Medieval date. See SLY 129 for the other possible seabank in this area. (S1) (S2) (S3)
