Monument record SLY 130 - A possible Post Medieval seabank on reclaimed land to the west of Crane's Creek, Shotley

A possible Post Medieval seabank is visible as an earthwork, centred on TM 24103584, in Shotley Marshes. The bank is roughly 250m in length and, on average, 9m wide. It runs on a roughly north-south alignment across marshy ground between Shotley Old Hall and Crane's Creek, following a drainage channel. The position of the bank suggests that it may be related to an early reclamation attempt in this area, which could have been a natural inlet from the main river channel.
