Full Description
A World War II embarkation hard is visible as a structure on aerial photographs taken from 1944 onwards, centred on TM 28233175 just to the south of Landguard Fort, Felixstowe. The hard consists of a roughly rectangular concrete surface measuring 70m by at least 30m, from which a pier, nearly 60m in length, protrudes into the channel. (S1) (S2) The embarkation hard was one of three built at Landguard Fort as part of Operation Overlord, in preparation for the embarkation of troops taking part in the D-Day landings. (S3) See FEX 230 for the other embarkation hards.
