A large quarry of unknown date is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs taken from 1944 onwards, centred on TM 24113882 in Stratton Hall parish. The quarry is sub-circular in shape and measures roughly 60m in diameter. It is not depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1st and 2nd edition 25" maps of circa 1884 and 1904, suggesting that it may date to the Post Medieval or an earlier period. A quarry in this area is most likely to have been a sand or gravel pit. (S1) (S2) (S3)
See SNH 002 for the adjacent site of a Medieval church and leper hospital.
