Full Description

A possible Neolithic mortuary enclosure is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs, centred on TM 22943991 in a field to the north-east of Burnaville Hall, Levington. The enclosure is defined by a single oval or sub-rectangular ditch measuring 24m by 14m which sits on the 25m contour line above Levington village. There may be internal features within the enclosure but these have not been mapped as they cannot be distinguished from the natural background geological pattern visible across the field. The shape of the enclosure suggests that there is a chance that it could be some form of Neolithic mortuary enclosure although it appears to be a little on the small side. (S1) (S2) (S3) See LVT 056 for the linear ditches visible in the field. (S4)
