Full Description

A possible wreck of unknown date is visible as a structure on aerial photographs from 1944 onwards, at TM 20473811 in the inter-tidal zone of the River Orwell, near Shore Cottage, Pinmill. The wreck is only about 13m in length and hard to define clearly. (S1) (S2) Numerous other wrecks are visible in the Pinmill area post-1945 but they have not been mapped as it is difficult to confirm any as being wrecks pre-1945. Many of the vessels visible in later years may be the remains of pontoons moored in the Orwell prior to the D-day landings. (S3)
