Full Description
A number of barbed wire obstructions and two pillboxes of World War II date are visible as structures on aerial photographs, forming a strongpoint at circa TM42634974, to the east of Orford Quay, Orford parish. The pillboxes are located on the sea wall at circa TM42594960 and TM42744967. The are surrounded to the north by multiple lines of barbed wire, enclosing an area of nearly 5ha. This strongpoint was probabaly located here to provide a degree of protection for Orford Quay, in addition to presenting an obstacle to invading forces. The barbed wire has been removed by October 1945. This strongpoint was probbaly complimented by the barbed wire obstructions further to the south-west (see ORF 093). (S1-3)
