Monument record HLY 078 - World War II pillbox.

A pillbox, probably of World War II date, is visible on aerial photographs of 1940 onwards as a structure located on the sea wall in Hollesley parish at circa TM38344551 (S1). It is hexagonal in shape and about 4m in diameter, possibly with a blast wall to the rear. It is similar is appearance to the pillboxes that form part of two strongpoints visible immediately to the east and south on the saltmarsh that were probably built at the same time as part of the system of anti-invasion defences in this area (see HLY 077 to HLY 079). The pillbox is still visible on aerial photographs of 1971, and is marked on the current base map (S2).
