Full Description

A possible World War II pillbox is visible as a structure on aerial photographs taken from 1944 onwards, located in allotment gardens to the north-east of Pipers Vale, Ipswich at TM 17944167. The pillbox is rectangular in shape, measuring about 5m by 3m. It is located at the junction of Morland Road and a track leading on to the allotments themselves. It was probably related to the anti-invasion defences surrounding Ipswich. (S1) (S2) However the possible pillbox does appear to be larger than average and a structure is still visible in that position in 1982, suggesting that it may not be of military origin. (S3)
