Full Description
A World War II road block is visible as a structure on aerial photographs taken in 1944, at TM 16164186 outside the Oyster Reach pub (formerly the Ostrich Inn) at the bottom of Bourne Hill, Wherstead. The road block is visible as two rows of slots in the road into which metal barriers would have been inserted. (S1) (S2) It would have been part of the system of anti-invasion defences surrounding Ipswich during the Second World War and blocks one of the major routes into the town. (S3)
