Full Description
A cropmark ring-ditch can be seen on aerial photographs circa 320 metres to the north of Park Farm, centred to on circa TM31013664 in Felixstowe parish. The cropmark of the ring ditch is up to 4 metres wide and is on average 32 metres in diameter. This site is not visible on the available photographs before 1980 as it is mostly in a field under a root crop, possibly potato or sugar beet. Such crops do not show cropmarks at the same time as the cereal crop in the neighbouring fields. On later photographs the field boundaries have been removed and a monoculture crop covers the whole area, revealing this site as a cropmark. The ditch would appear to be too wide for a drip gulley, the kind of feature associated with Iron Age or Roman round houses, and may be the remains of a ditch which enclosed a barrow of Bronze Age date. Three other similar ring ditches can be seen in this area (see FEX 065-066, FEX 260). (S1-S4)
