Full Description

Two Second World War Light Anti-Aircraft machine gunposts are visible on aerial photographs, cut into two earthwork mounds, possibly the remains of Round Barrows of Bronze Age date, on Brightwell Heath, Martlesham parish. The mounds can be seen on aerial photographs of 1947 (S1), centred on circa TM24554457 and TM24574457. The gunposts were probably built for the protection of Martlesham Heath airbase. Both mounds have now been destroyed by the expansion of a modern housing estate.
