Full Description

Two bomb craters of Second World War date can be seen on contemporary aerial photographs, at the eastern edge of Martlesham Heath, Waldringfield parish. The smaller crater is centred on circa TM264448 and measures circa 5 metres in diameter. The larger is at TM266449 and is circa 10 metres in diameter. The difference in size may be a result of the former falling on compact heath soil, the latter on land under cultivation. (S1)
