Full Description

A Second World War military camp of unknown function is visible as structures on aerial photographs, to the east of Martlesham village, Martlesham parish, centred on circa TM258460. The camp is largely composed of small tents arrayed mostly along the west and north margins of the field, but a small number of Nissen Hut type structures can also be seen. By August 1940 many smaller tents appear to have been removed. Such temporary structures have not been transcribed. The camp may have provided accommodation for military staff manning Martlesham airfield to the south-west. (S1)
