Full Description
A field system of probably medieval origin can be seen as cropmarks on aerial photographs, to the west of Home Farm, St Mary & South Elmham parish, centred on circa TM 292852. The field system was probably composed of a number of ditched and/or embanked boundaries that subdivided and connected the remaining fields visible today. Only one of the transcribed boundaries is marked on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of circa 1884 (S4), suggesting that most were removed some time before this date. Most of the cropmarks fit neatly into the dominant, regular field pattern, which may have medieval origins. (S1-S4)
