Full Description
A possible causeway or river bank flood defence of probable medieval date is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs, on the south bank of the River Waveney to the south-east of Earsham, Bungay parish, centred on circa TM328886. The bank is approximately 150 metres long and flanked by ditches, presumably for drainage. It is 8 to 18 metres to the south of the current course of the river for most of its length, but the ends appear to meet the riverbank. It is unclear if this is deliberate as it doesn't appear to meet crossing points or alternative routes. It is probable that this is a medieval feature that has been superseded by more recent routes or water management. (S1, S2)
