Full Description
Tracks or roads and probable boundaries pertaining to a possible shrunken medieval village can be seen as earthworks on aerial photographs to the west of Manor Farm, Bungay parish, centred on circa TM 340877. The main features of the site include; an east to west oriented ditch-defined track or road that appears to continue the line of an extant track to the south-east; north to south aligned boundaries possibly crossing the track; curvilinear boundaries or tracks to the south of the lateral ditched trackway which may be focused upon a pond. The boundaries may be too large to represent tofts and are more likely to be the remains of fields aligned upon the road. Hodskinson's map of 1783 shows only a few buildings in this area, but annotates this point as 'Bungay Upland Gr' (presumably green), possibly supporting the interpretation that this area have previously been the focus of settlement. Further earthworks and cropmarks are visible to the east and north (See BUN 077-082). (S1-S3)
