Monument record MTT 033 - Post Medieval field boundaries and possible ditched trackways, visible as earthworks and cropmarks.

Field boundaries and possible ditched trackways of post-medieval and possible medieval date are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs, to the north of Mettingham Castle, Mettingham parish centred on circa TM360888. The possible boundary cropmarks appear to be aligned with and intersect field boundaries marked on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of circa 1884 and are probably part of the same system of land organisation. However, part of one of these probably post-medieval boundaries visible as a cropmark has been transcribed as it appears to intersect with an unmapped feature. This may indicate an earlier phase of land organisation. The possible ditched trackway to the west of the field boundaries may meet the current line of the road where it shows a slight bend, and may also belong to this earlier phase. (S1, S2)
