Full Description
Cropmarks are visible on aerial photographs forming over the remains of probable agricultural landscape features of unknown date, possibly field boundaries or drains and a pond, centred on circa TM 373902 to the south of Cherry Tree Farm in Shipmeadow parish. The cropmarks form a T-junctions abutting the circular cropmark of a possible pond, circa 13 metres diameter, at the southern end of the 'T' . They are only clearly visible on aerial photographs of 1967 where they cross cropmarks forming over probably modern field drains, which are very similar in appearance; it must be considered that the linear cropmarks recorded here are also modern in date and related to field drainage. However, the vertical linear cropmark of the 'T' crosses a modern field boundary into a separate field where the possible pond is located. This may support the interpretation that the cropmarks predate the modern field structure and drainage system. (S1)
