Full Description
Two parallel drainage channels of probable post-medieval date are visible on aerial photographs as earthworks on Benstead Marshes, Shipmeadow parish, centred approximately on TM381905. The ditches were clearly constructed as part of the probably planned drainage system which covered a large area of Benstead marshes. Elements of this system went out of use some time prior to circa 1884 (S1); the project only recorded such drains when not marked on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of circa 1884. For other similar examples see MTT 039. (S2)
