Abstract/Summary

A desk based assessment and historic building assessment was undertaken in advance of redevelopment proposals. Between 1770 and 1828 the site had been a tanyard, after which date it was developed into a silk factory. Following sale in 1882 an ironworks was developed on the site, although silk weaving was revived in the late 1890s. The site was still in use as an ironworks in the early 21st century.
